Nancy Loughlin Newman at 80

A large, but not complete group of the Newman elders, middle agers, and next generation gathered on Saturday July 25th to congratulate Mom/Nana on reaching (elegantly and gracefully) 80 years. July 24th was the actual day, but Saturdays are much more convenient for partying. Thanks to those who were able to make it and a special thanks to those who postponed the start of their Pawleys' beach week to join the festivities. Steve, Bill, and Andrew, spouses, and the "youngsters" who couldn't make the trip...we missed you. Perhaps Pawleys 2010 is a time when we can all catch up. We hear that the two (older!) "Reston Newman" girls will have next generation babies to introduce! Cara, we are glad that you made it and that you are still planning to go ahead with the wedding. Mike had a chance, too, to back out when he came to the Newmans for Thanksgiving dinner in 1978. He didn't, we did, and look what has happened since! Now if I can just figure out how to post pictures...

Changes to layout

I made some changes to the layout just for fun. If you've read any good books you would like to recommend, please list them. Keep the pictures and posts coming.

Hi all. Em is doing new year file purge and found this photo of mom's folks Ann, Nana, (middle back row) and Richard, Granpa, Loughlin (far right) with friends. Looks like a cold day and high spirits. Photo is undated but is likely during the Depression.

We to will overcome current economic troubles. We are good, capable people in a land of opportunity. Shoulders to the wheel.....

Fun and silly times at the Jackson household on the night before Christmas. Would somebody nudge Jane, I think she fell asleep!

the space between Christmas and the new year

Hi! This is my first post. I don't know if it will work so I'll keep it short.
Dad, thanks for posting the pictures to the BLOG. I don't yet know how to do that, but maybe I'll learn in this quiet time after Christmas.
Matt and Cara received a Wii-Fit for Christmas and Santa brought us a Wii, so Mike and I have been trying some of the games and activities available. We're all quite competetive so even while playing board games (like Taboo and Blokus) the room heats up a bit. That's good because maybe it will save us a few dollars on our gas heating bill.
The snow is mostly melted except where the piles from shovelling were thrown. The pond out back is still frozen. Today it is very blustery and I'm itching to take a walk along the sound at Redondo. At high tide on a stormy day, the waves crash and splash up through the boardwalk from below.
I think I'll go get ready to walk now. I look forward to posting again in the future.
Love to you all and Happy New Year!
